Healthy Cotton Oklahoma has much to celebrate. Since statehood, we have seen the creation of an ever-expanding immunization system, greater control of infectious diseases, a safer food supply system, fluoridation, advances in injury prevention, better family planning, improvement in care for mothers and babies, decreased use of tobacco products, and more. The changes have been truly incredible. Still Oklahoma struggles with its health status. We need to continue working to ensure all of our children are up-to-date with their immunizations. More family planning options are available now than ever before and yet, too many unplanned and unintended children are born every day in Oklahoma. Even though we now know more about safe and healthy foods along with the importance of regular exercise, childhood obesity is rising at epidemic levels.
