WIC and Faith-Based Mini Grants Community Reports

In 2006 and 2007 the Women Infant and Children Service (WIC) of the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) made funds available to local Turning Point Partnerships to expand and enhance their efforts in addressing nutrition and physical activity in their communities and with their Faith-Based partners. The purpose of these funds were to allow local Turning Point Partnerships the opportunity to more effectively meet local situations and conditions. 

In 2006, the total amount of funds awarded was $100,000.00. Funds were distributed to 20 partnerships after a competitive review process and awarded through a memorandum of intra-agency collaboration between the county health department and the OSDH. The maximum of any one grant was $5,000.00. In developing the proposal, local Turning Point partnerships and county health departments needed strong collaboration, and all worked together using the priorities of the local Turning Point partnership as the basis for their innovative approaches. While including the entire community, the primary target population was WIC participants. The project period ended September 30, 2006. 

In 2007, the combined total amount of funds from Oklahoma WIC awarded to local communities was $250,000.00. They were distributed after a competitive review process. The maximum of any one grant was $5,000.00. In developing the proposals, Partnerships, Faith-Based partners and county health departments needed a strong partnership, and willingness to work together referring to the Priorities of the Turning Point Partnership. While including the entire community the primary target population was WIC participants.
