Primary Care & Rural Health

The Office of Primary Care & Rural Health Development provides program oversight for the following:

Review of counties (or partial counties) for health professional shortage area (HPSA) or medically underserved area (MUA) designation.  HPSA designations may be for primary care, dental or mental health provider shortages.

Designated areas are used for the following federal programs:

→National Health Service Corps (NHSC) (HPSA)
→Federally qualified health center (FQHC) (MUA)
→Rural health clinic (RHC) (HPSA or MUA)
→Medicare rural provider enhanced payment (HPSA)
→National Health Service Corps Scholarship and Loan Repayment programs (HPSA)
