The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) Employee Wellness Program is an outstanding example of the state’s largest public health agency leading the way to better health.

Dr. Mike Crutcher understands the importance of creating a state of health for his employees. After watching employees participate and share their excitement of agency-driven wellness activities, he had the vision to expand the popular program! He wanted more employees to participate and benefit from the activities that were already taking place.

The OSDH Employee Wellness Program has grown from sporadic lunchtime programs to a major commitment to improve the health and well-being of every state employee. Regular smoking cessation programs, CPR classes, stair climbers club, and annual participation in the National Employee Health and Fitness Day are just some of the offerings at the OSDH. In addition, employees can be found participating in aerobics and yoga classes, massage therapy, weight loss programs, bocce ball, weekly walks with the Commissioner, and onsite summertime Farmers Market. Because of these efforts, the OSDH has been identified as a champion for other state agencies to replicate this model in their own wellness programs.
