Arthritis Prevention and Education Programch_arthris_pic_gar.jpg

The Arthritis Prevention and Education Program (APEP) and the Oklahoma Arthritis Network (OAN) are charged to reduce the burden of arthritis on Oklahomans. APEP is located in the Office of Community Development, Community Health Services of the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH). The program administers and coordinates the activities of the OAN. OAN, established in 1999, is a cooperative effort among consumers, health professionals, business leaders, educators, and private/public organizations.

"As the leading cause of disability in the United States, arthritis can no longer be ignored as a public health problem. The Oklahoma State Department of Health is working with the public to reduce the disabling effects of arthritis and related conditions in Oklahoma. We CAN do something about arthritis in Oklahoma. We look forward to continuing the partnerships created through the Oklahoma Arthritis Network. These collaborations may very well reveal resources for arthritis prevention and treatment that have been underutilized."
