Program History

Over the years, the OSDH and DEQ have been collaborating on numerous projects to improve public health. The collaboration included the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP), birth defects and various other areas such as chemical exposure, public water supply, fluoridation, swimming beaches, and mold.

In 2003, the two agencies jointly applied for and were awarded the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Environmental Public Health Tracking Grant.  Although federal funding for this grant ended in 2006, the linking of health effects data and environmental hazards data continues to be much needed.
