National Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

Under United States Senate Resolution (S.R. 306) the week of October 18 through 24, 2009, has been designated as the National Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NCLPPW).

NCLPPW is observed every year in October during which the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) along with state and local partners aim to prevent childhood lead poisoning by:

  • Raising awareness through education and outreach;
  • Stressing the importance of testing the highest risk children younger than 6 years of age (preferably by ages 1 and 2); and
  • Urging people to take steps to reduce lead exposure.

CDC, HUD, and EPA have developed NCLPPW flyers and posters that are free for states and communities to download.
