First Grade Health Survey (1GHS)Boy Eating a Pencil Germ Vector

The First Grade Health Survey (1GHS) was designed to assess the health care needs and health care access issues in early school-aged children. The 1GHS was developed by the Maternal and Child Health Service with the collaboration of MCH partners within OSDH. The 1GHS is conducted on odd numbered years. Survey samples are selected using a two-stage sampling design. Public schools are randomly selected with probability proportional to size, then classes are randomly selected from each participating school. The surveys are sent home with the children of the selected classes for their parents or guardians to complete. The survey consists of questions that ascertain a child’s health status, including general health issues, injuries, and access to and utilization of insurance or governmental programs. The survey also contains questions about other pertinent factors that play a role in the health of young children in Oklahoma..
