Dental Clinical Program

The health department dental clinical program was originally established to supplement existing dental care programs in the state. Our target population is primarily school age children and also some care is provided to pregnant women. Patients must have a financial need. The health department dental clinics offer dental clinical care only part-time. In general, consultant dentists provide comprehensive dental care including examinations, cleaning teeth, taking necessary x-rays, emergency procedures for relief of pain and infection, appropriate restorative procedures, necessary extractions, oral cancer examinations, preventive counseling, and referrals, however, each county site can provide more specific information about the services provided. Health department clinics serve people who live in the county where the clinic is located.

Most young people who are eligible for dental care paid for by the Oklahoma Health Care Authority should receive the care in private dental offices. The Indian Health Service dental clinical programs serve the majority of Native American children.
