The Office of Personnel Management's Online State Employment Center "Green" Savings Prior to launching the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Online State Employment Center at the beginning of 2008, OPM typically received approximately 65,000 – 70,000 applications a year. With the new online service, OPM received in excess of 118,000 applications during the first year dramatically increasing competition for state jobs in Oklahoma. Other “Green” savings included: • The Office of Personnel Management’s Online State Employment Center has not only eliminated the paper used from the old application forms, but also eliminated the paper form used by state agencies to post a job. It has also eliminated the form to report the employment of an individual made from the posting. • Because of the new email notification system built into the online state employment center, OPM also estimates approximately $50,000 saved each year in postage savings replacing traditional means of communication. • OPM has also dramatically reduced public traffic to their office by more than half – an important savings of gasoline and other transportation costs for job seekers.
