GRANT TITLE: RESIDENTIAL SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT (RSAT) GRANT PROGRAM

OVERVIEW: The purpose of the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Grant is to assist states and units of local government in developing and implementing residential substance abuse treatment programs within state and local correctional and detention facilities in which prisoners are incarcerated for a period of time sufficient to permit substance abuse treatment.

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for funding under this grant program, an applicant must be a(n): a) State Agency or b) Unit of Local Government (i.e., city, county, town). 

BOARD PRIORITIES: The RSAT Board, comprised of six members, is charged with reviewing grant proposals and determining awards for the grant funds.

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION: The 2008 RSAT application period has passed. Depending on federal funding, it is anticipated that grant funds will be available in 2009.

Interesting Facts

  • In 2005, the State of Oklahoma received $575,703 for the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Grant, a 47% reduction from the previous award.



  • In 2004, nearly 1,000 inmates in jail-based or correctional-based facilities were treated for drug and alcohol addiction using Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Grant funds.
