Dear Director:

The Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) Advisory Council under the direction of Representative John Enns, Senator Jim Halligan, and Representative Lee Denney, request your participation in an online assessment regarding electronic and information technology accessibility.  A baseline survey was conducted in 2003 with the intent to perform a follow up assessment as an opportunity to compare advancements in accessibility awareness and determine progressive training needs as technology naturally changes. The assessment is administered by the EITA Advisory Council through a partnership with the Office of State Finance, OK.gov, and the Department of Central Services.  The data will be analyzed by Oklahoma ABLE Tech, the assistive technology program for the State of Oklahoma.

Title 62 O.S. §34.28 requires agencies to assure information technology allows employees, program participants, and members of the general public access to use of information and data that is comparable to the access by individuals without disabilities. Agencies, which include state agencies, postsecondary institutions, and local technology centers, must comply with Oklahoma Information Technology Standards, issued by the Office of State Finance to guide the procurement of accessible information technology.

The EITA Advisory Council, the Department of Central Services, the Office of State Finance and Oklahoma ABLE Tech have been involved with efforts to provide technical assistance and training.  We understand that many agencies and institutions have made progress increasing the accessibility of electronic and information technology to employees and the public.  With this in mind, the survey results will be educational and assist our efforts to improve accessibility training and support for state agencies.

We appreciate your time and willingness to complete the EITA assessment as we work to make Oklahoma a leader of accessible government to all citizens.  If you have questions, please contact Linda Jaco, Director of Oklahoma ABLE Tech, at Linda.jaco@okstate.edu; or Brenda Dawes, Assistive Technology Project Specialist and Marketing Coordinator, at brenda.dawes@okstate.edu; or by phone at 1-800-257-1705 or 405-744-9748.

EITA Online Assessment Deadline extended from 11.17.09 to Friday, 12.11.09.

Sincerely,

Representative John Enns
Representative Lee Denney
Senator Jim Halligan
