72% of Americans Get a Response From Government Inquiries Via Social Media

Thirty percent of U.S. citizens using social media to interact with the federal government sought to ask a question, with only 72 percent receiving a response from an agency, says a new report from J.D. Power.

Among those who did get a response, 70 percent said the contact offered to assist them with other issues and 56 percent were offered additional services, says the report. The study surveyed more than 2,600 U.S. citizens who interacted with the federal government via agency and department social media channels from November 2013 to February 2014.

911 Official Envisions Text Capability

Although there are many decisions that need to be made, Muskogee County could have the capability to provide Text-to-911 service in about a year, Darryl Maggard said.

Voice calls will always be preferred, but because there is a legitimate need for a secondary method, texting — which is widely accepted and used — “has become a necessity as well,” said Maggard, the coordinator for Muskogee City-County E911.

Mary Meeker puts out an annual report on Internet trends every year that is a sort of farmer’s almanac for the tech industry. It puts all the crucial data in one place, with Ms. Meeker’s particular spin on what’s most important.

Presenting this year’s report at the Code conference in Southern California on Wednesday, Ms. Meeker said that growth in overall Internet usage was slowing, especially in developed countries.
