More than 16 million visitors, 2 million transactions, and 75,000 professional license renewals during 2008
Oklahomans now have a redesigned government portal to visit and use as the central gateway to interacting with the state government at the state’s official Web site. OK.gov, which first launched in 2001 under the name of YourOklahoma.com, receives an average of nearly 1.3 million visitors per month and offers more than 260 online services to the businesses and citizens of Oklahoma.
“The new portal design assists the state in providing Oklahomans with efficient government,” said Governor Brad Henry. “Oklahomans can now find information faster with the new organization of content and search tools available at OK.gov.”
At the new OK.gov, visitors are greeted with new technologies such as a ‘One-Click Search’ utility to assist Oklahomans in finding answers fast by displaying the most recent and popular content.
“This is phase one of the new OK.gov where we provide a more intuitive experience for Oklahomans. The public can look forward to more new services and utilities being launched on OK.gov in the near future,” said Joe Fleckinger, Deputy Director of the Office of State Finance.
The site now features translation available in 8 languages and the ability to “Share” with eleven different social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace. Another new feature is a dashboard on the right column of the homepage providing quick access to real-time content such as State Surplus Auction items in the “Shop OK.gov” panel and the status of state bills in the “Bill Tracker” panel.
Oklahomans are invited to visit OK.gov and provide feedback utilizing the online “Feedback” form located in the “Support” menu. The portal also offers Live Chat Help during normal Oklahoma government business hours, available through the Help Center located in the right content area.
OK.gov is also assisting the state in its efforts to be more environmentally friendly. Through http://gogreen.ok.gov, agencies can report the amount of paper saved by putting services and information online. Oklahoma's online services reduced paper consumption among state agencies by over 35.9 million sheets of paper since January 2007.
Oklahoma citizens and businesses donated more than 2,000 cubic square feet of used computer equipment and used cell phones during the recent eRecycling event at the Oklahoma state capitol on April 22.
“We will be able to help a lot of deserving people with computers thanks to the citizens of Oklahoma. I’ve always known they were special – this just proves it one more time,” said Adri-Anne Trammell, ASK Project Manager. “We’re just down the road in Norman so if you have more computers you want to donate, the information on where and when is on our website: www.soonerambucs.org.”
Equipment collected from the eRecycling event was donated to the AMBUCS share4Life Komputers Project and Cell Phones for Soldiers. The donations will generate at least 150 refurbished computers for disabled Oklahomans and over 11,500 minutes in talk time for Oklahoma soldiers in the Middle East.
“Donating your old cell phone is a small, easy sacrifice to make to support our troops,” says Brittany Bergquist, Cell Phones for Soldiers co-founder. “But for the troops overseas, it provides a priceless connection to their loved ones at home.”
The eRecycle event was sponsored by GoGreen.OK.gov, an OK.gov initiative showcasing how Oklahoma eGovernment is helping to reduce the carbon footprint by reducing paper consumption and citizen travel to government facilities. According to a study available on http://www.gogreen.ok.gov, the state of Oklahoma has reduced paper consumption by over 35.9 million sheets of paper through the use of online government services.
By moving government services online, state agencies receive the benefit of removing paper-based processes from their daily routine and reducing traffic to their office. Currently, 23 state agencies are participating in the study available at http://www.gogreen.ok.gov.
National Academy to Host White House Dialogue on IT Solutions for Economic Recovery
For one week beginning April 27th, the National Academy of Public Administration, on behalf of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board and the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, will host a national online dialogue to engage leading information technology (IT) vendors, thinkers, and consumers in answering a key question:
What ideas, tools, and approaches can make Recovery.gov a place where the public can transparently monitor the expenditure and use of recovery funds?
Participants from across the IT community will be able to recommend, discuss, and vote on the best ideas, tools, and approaches. The ideas submitted can directly impact how Recovery.gov operates, and ensure that our economic recovery is the most transparent and accountable in history.
Budget spending, stimulus spending, lobbyist spending, legislative tracking, and more can all be found at http://www.transparent-gov.com.
With the recent passing of the Federal Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, governments are now working hard to monitor and report on the spending of those dollars, and share that oversight with taxpayers. But transparency does not begin or end with the federal stimulus money. Governments across the country are providing online services that offer insight into budget spending, lobbyist spending, legislative tracking, and more.
A one-stop source for accessing this information just launched -- the Transparent-gov.com site is a free resource that tracks the transparency services offered by federal, state, and local governments nationwide in their efforts to make information more available to citizens. The site offers links to online transparency, stimulus, and recovery initiatives and allows users to suggest additional content through a public feedback link.
The site was created by NIC. Based in Olathe, Kansas, NIC (NASDAQ: EGOV), is the nation’s leading provider of official government portals, online services, and secure payment processing solutions.
