Assistive Technology for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities

"Providing hands-on technology for children with special needs"

PDF
What is "assistive technology?" Assistive technology (AT) is any device that helps someone do daily activities more easily and independently. AT services help children, their families, and service providers find and use assistive devices that fit each child’s individual needs. Some devices are simple and others more complex, but all are chosen to help the child play, communicate and learn more easily.

Assistive technology devices include:
Special toys
Cognitive and learning aids
Communication aids
Computer access
Feeding aids
Listening devices
Mobility aids
Seating and standing aids
Visual aids

How can assistive technology help a very young child with special needs? Young children with disabilities may have a hard time doing everyday activities. Assistive technology can provide exciting devices especially for
children, to help them learn and develop.

With assistive technology, children with special needs have the chance to:
See and hear better
