The mission of the SoonerStart Early Intervention Program is to use an individualized, comprehensive, coordinated system of services and supports to enhance the abilities of Oklahoma infants and toddlers with disabilities and developmental delays, and strengthen the capacity of their families to support their development. The Oklahoma State Department of Education is the lead agency for the SoonerStart program.
Oklahoma ABLE Tech and SoonerStart desire to provide assistive technology (AT) to infants and toddlers, birth to 36 months. ABLE Tech provides AT to SoonerStart teams in the form of assessment kits. SoonerStart uses these kits when working with families in their homes. The goal is to increase awareness of and access to AT that may benefit children with disabilities in the SoonerStart program.
The AT assessment kit may be used for device demonstrations (also known as assessments). An assessment compares the features and benefits of a particular AT device or category of devices for an individual or small group of individuals (or family). The purpose of an assessment is to enable the individual to make an informed decision.
The following inventory list includes some of the types of AT devices found in the SoonerStart kits. Every quarter, SoonerStart teams submit their demonstrations to ABLE Tech for the opportunity to win additional kit items of their choice. Therefore, kits may include an additional array of AT devices such as iPads, positioning and mobility devices, and daily living equipment.
