WEATHER: (12.3.13 6:11 p.m.) ABLE Tech plans to move forward with the Dec 4-5 training event; however, we do recommend that you follow travel advisories in your areas. Please call if you have any questions 405-744-9748 or 800-257-1705. ABLE Tech will post information about the next regional training no later than January 15. MOU AT Support Teams will also be notified through email of the date/location. Certificates of attendance will be available for Dec 4 for those who plan to attend Wednesday only. The credit hours for Dec. 4 are 6.75 and for both Dec 4-5 attendance a total of 13 hours will be earned.
Best Western Hotel cancellations: For Dec. 3 reservations, cancel room by 4:00 on Dec. 3. If you have a reservation for Dec. 4 only, cancel your room by 4:00 p.m. on Dec. 4. If your reservation is for both Dec. 3-4, and stay one night, please cancel your Dec 4 room as early as you know or when you check out on Dec. 4. Atherton Hotel cancellation: I have not received a return call from the Atherton. Please call the hotel directly at 405-744-6835.

The Atherton Hotel, located at the OSU Student Union, is the official conference hotel. To reserve, please call (405) 744-6835 or reserve online at http://www.athertonhotelatosu.com/ (Don't forget to ask for the state rate when booking). The Atherton Hotel is on the south side of the Student Union. Parking is available in the OSU Student Union parking garage for a $10 fee per 24 hours. The Atherton Hotel staff can assist you with the permit and fees.

Karen joined the Bookshare team in February, 2013 as an Outreach Coordinator and is based in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Karen has over 30 years of experience as a Special Educator in a variety of roles including teacher, Educational Diagnostician, and Assistive Technology Specialist for a large urban school district. Her years as a member of an Assistive Technology Team afford her a knowledge base of assistive technology hardware, software, and training. Karen’s experience in seeking solutions to the roadblocks that make learning difficult for students has prepared her for working with educators, parents, and students who are seeking solutions for print-disabled learners.
Karen also worked as a consultant to Texas Regional Service Center where she taught a Methods and Strategies class in the Alternative Teacher Certification Program for future Special Educators. Karen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education/Reading/Special Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Science degree in Special Education/Educational Diagnostics from Lamar State University.
Karen will lead participants through a hands-on computer workshop on topics including how to set up accounts and download books as well as some of the latest updated features of Bookshare.
Joan is the supervisor for low incidence disabilities and special education workforce at the Minnesota Department of Education, where she has worked since 1999. She brings many years of experiences as an independent assistive technology consultant and adult educator to her work.
Joan is the parent of 3 children, all of whom are now adults, one of whom had an IEP. Joan is a member of the QIAT Leadership Team, and a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award in assistive technology from the MN STAR Program. "
Joan will provide an overview of the QIAT and guide team members through a process of self-evaluation.
Joy is Director of Technical Assistance for the Center for Applied Science Technology (CAST) and for the National Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM) Center. Joy is a founding member of the QIAT Community of AT professionals and facilitator of the QIAT List.
Joy received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from the University of Florida, her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education from Florida Atlantic University, and her Doctorate in Special Education Personnel Preparation from the University of Kentucky. She is a strong supporter of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Assistive Technology as complementary supports for student achievement.
Joy will discuss many aspects of AIM, including how to use the AIM navigator.
