Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why should I buy the Oklahoma Education tag?
A. The Oklahoma Education tag is a specialty license plate promoting "on the road" education awareness. It also gives you a way to contribute to Oklahoma education. Q. How much does the Education tag cost?
A. The plate costs just $37, with $23 of the tag's price allocated as follows:
85%: Teachers’ Retirement Benefit Fund ($19.55)
5%: Education Reform Revolving Fund ($1.15)
5%: Higher Education Revolving Fund ($1.15)

Q. How do I get one? A. Pick up an application from your local tag agent, or download an application from the TRS website or the Department of Education website. You also can request an application from Mark H. Mann at the Oklahoma Department of Education, 2500 North Lincoln Boulevard, Suite 110, Oklahoma City, OK 73105. You also can call the Department of Education at (405) 521-3331, and leave your name and address to receive an application. Complete the application and mail it to the address on the application with a personal check for $37, payable to the Oklahoma Tax Commission (the cost of each tag is $35 plus a $2 mailing fee charged by the Oklahoma Tax Commission).Q. Will the Education tag replace my existing tag?
A. Your regular plate must be currently registered at all times. You can use your Education tag on the rear of your vehicle as your official tag, or you can display it on the front of your vehicle. Q. How long is the Education tag valid?
A. If you choose to use the Education tag as your official license plate, it's renewable for $35 plus a $1 mailing fee, in addition to the price of your regular car tag. Of the cost of the Education tag, $23 will continue to be earmarked for educational programs. If you choose not to renew your Education tag, you can still display it on the front of your vehicle. However, if you don't renew your tag, your number could be reassigned to someone else, and you would have to contact the Special Plates Section of the Oklahoma Tax Commission if you ever want to renew the tag for official use. Q. Why did the price of the Education Tag increase $10? A. House Bill 1994 enacted during the 2004 Legislative Session increased the price for many special tags to cover the cost of administration of the Oklahoma Vehicle License and Registration Act
