2008 Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Plans

The 2008 Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Plans for all agencies of the Executive Branch of State Government and Higher Education are due on September 1, 2008.

Many have asked for templates to use for the planning process. New this year, we placed the templates on the Statewide Cyber Security Portal. It is not required that you use the templates, and several of your plans are in compliance now.

Please review your existing plan for needed changes or missing requirements as outlined in the State “Information Security Policy, Procedures and Guidelines”. Specific requirements are found in Chapter 8 of that document. The link is included below for your convenience.

Unfortunately, no. The plans vary significantly from agency to agency and what may be needed for business continuity/recovery for one agency may be inadequate or inappropriate at another agency.

Are these plans Public Record?
No, these plans are protected under Title 62 O.S. 41.5a.C.

Who has access to my plan?
Only the Systems Planning and Information Security staff at the Office of State Finance.

My plan contains confidential information. Am I required to submit all the details to OSF?
Yes. For State security reasons, OSF is required to have a copy of your entire plan.

Are the plans audited?
Currently, the only audits being conducted on these plans are done by the State Auditor and Inspector during an IT Audit. If a plan appears blatantly out of compliance, OSF may require additional work and resubmission, or we may refer it to the State Information Security Officer for follow up.

The person(s) who did this for our agency in the past are gone and we cannot find the files. Can I get a copy of what we submitted in the past?
Certainly. It only requires an e-mail from your agency Director or IT Director approving release of the information to you. If a plan has been filed in the past, we will forward the most recent copy to you via e-mail.

Do I need to use the templates?
No, the templates are merely made available to assist in developing useable Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans.

What statute requires us to file a Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity plan with OSF?
