The Office of State Finance Information Services Division is seeking an senior data communications specialist. This is a full time, unclassified position in State government and will be eligible for a generous total rewards package. POSITION PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to engineer, implement, and support data communications. This position requires an individual knowledgeable in networking; network security; data communications technology standards; and networking topologies. Individual will ensure all scheduled support activities and project deadlines are met while maintaining a high level of user trust, satisfaction and confidence. An in-depth understanding of technical principles, theories, concepts and networking technologies is required.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

The principal activities include the following: 

• Engineer, implement, and support the OSF data communications infrastructure. Identify technologies for inclusion in the network infrastructure;
• Develop technical and equipment requirements meeting user’s needs. Identify network configurations providing the best benefit to the state and the user;
• Integrate networking equipment from multiple vendors resulting in an environment providing seamless data communications;
• Consult with agencies to discuss network security solutions. Acquire, configure, integrate and maintain security configuration;
• Plan, implement, and support firewall configuration and installation;
• Monitor network performance and develop plans for recovery, reconfiguration and optimization of networks. Maintain networks at 99% uptime and reliability;
• Research and stay current on the latest networking technologies; and
• Other assigned duties.

PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business, engineering or related discipline with an information technology or telecommunications focus is preferred; and at least 4 years professional-level experience in implementation, operation and maintenance of large-scale networks, preferably across multiple hardware and software platforms. Experience and knowledge in new computing architectures and implementation of networked computing structures; experience with intranet and internet development and implementation. An equivalent combination of education and experience substituting 1 year of experience in computer science, information technology, network implementation, disaster recovery and continuity planning or closely related field for each preferred year of education.

Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following:

• Minimum of 2 years experience in networking; network security; data communications technology standards; and networking topologies;
• Minimum of 2 years experience in the configuration of layer 3 switches; and
• Minimum of 2 years experience in the configuration of firewalls.
