POSITION PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to operate computers in the processing of production computer systems. This position requires an individual knowledgeable in computer operations with experience operating mainframe and midrange computers and servers with multiple platforms and operating systems including z/OS, AIX, UNIX, Linux, etc.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

• Perform computer operations to meet all production schedules and processing requirements.

• Assist in monitoring operating problems to ensure production schedules and processing requirements are met.

• Assist in monitoring adherence to all standards, policies, procedures and processes to help maintain high quality computer operations and at least 99.9% reliability of service.

• Maintain compliance with all published security policies and procedures regarding computer operations, system backups, and contingency and disaster recovery plans.

• Recommend changes to standards, policies, procedures and processes to continually improve computer operations and meet the department’s mission.

• Assist in maintaining accurate production records and problem logs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Requirements at this level consist of the completion of three (3) semester hours of computer science or management information systems course work or an equivalent technical or vocational training course or six (6) months of experience in the operation of data processing equipment, production scheduling, maintenance of a data library, or closely related work; plus two additional years of experience in the operation of data processing equipment, production scheduling, maintenance of a data library or closely related work.

Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following:

At least two years of computer operations experience, preferably across multiple hardware and software platforms.

Experience and knowledge in different operating environments including z/OS, AIX, UNIX, Linux, etc.
