NOTICE: Change Effective June 30, 2012 for Managing Brokers, Proprietary Brokers and Branch Brokers

Any Broker who holds or has held a license type of Broker Manager (BM), Proprietor Broker (BP), or Branch Broker (BB) during any portion of their current license term shall be required to successfully complete the Broker in Charge course as approved by the Commission consisting of fifteen (15) clock hours, or its equivalent, as approved by the Commission, each license term beginning with those licenses that expire on June 30, 2012. In addition, to complete the continuing education requirement of twenty-one (21) clock hours such broker shall complete at least two (2) of the six (6) required subject matter, equal to at least six (6) clock hours, as referenced in paragraph (3) of this subsection.

Any broker that lapsed or renewed inactive in their previous license term or current license term who applies for reinstatement or activation after June 30, 2012 and held in their previous or current license term the license type of Broker Manager (BM), Proprietor Broker (BP), or Branch Broker (BB) must complete the Broker in Charge course and two (2) of the six (6) required subject matter totaling six (6) hours prior to their license being reinstated active or reactivating.

Any licensee may complete the Broker in Charge course as approved by the Commission consisting of fifteen (15) clock hours in lieu of the required subject matter.

Continuing Education - Continuing education courses are required for sales associates and brokers who desire to renew their licenses on an active status. Provisional sales associates have a separate and unique post-license requirement and they are not required to complete continuing education. Upon being issued a real estate license, a sales associate or broker associate is required to complete twenty-one (21) clock hours every three (3) years.  Licensees are required to take, each license term, at least six (6) clock hours consisting of six (6) core subjects and at least fifteen (15) clock hours consisting of elective subjects and/or any excess of required subjects to obtain the total of twenty-one (21) clock hours as per Rule 605:10-3-6(l). The six (6) core subjects are listed as follows: (This requirement does not apply to a provisional sales associate.)

  • Broker Relationships Act (BRA)
  • Code and Rules (CAR)
  • Contracts and Forms (CON)
  • Fair Housing (FHR)
  • Hot Topic (HOT)  (which will consist of a variety of issues ranging From Code and Rule updates to major industry concerns)
  • Professional Conduct (PSC)

Licensees who maintain inactive licenses are not required to complete continuing education; however, if a licensee desires an active license, the licensee will be required to complete the required hours prior to activation of a license

Provisional Post-License Course - Provisional Sales Associates are required to complete the Part II post-license course prior to their one-year license expiration date. This course is not to be taken prior to a license being issued; this course must be completed prior to the one-year license expiration date.
