Severe Weather Event

May 10, 2008


During the afternoon and early evening hours on May 10, 2008, a tornado outbreak occurred across eastern Oklahoma.  This event was caused by a strong storm system moving across Kansas and combining with warm/moist air across Oklahoma.  Storms rapidly developed around 5pm with several supercells in eastern Oklahoma.  One supercell moved along the Oklahoma/Kansas border and produced a tornado that hit Picher, Oklahoma.  Other storms developed farther south into Oklahoma with McAlester being impacted.
