ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Any successes of Facilities Management’s Sustainability Plan would not be possible without the support and cooperative efforts of the agencies in each building. In addition to upgrading the building’s mechanical and technological aspects, it is imperative that state agencies work together to develop a culture to improve building sustainability.

Efficiency begins with individual participation and behavior.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a kBtu?
A: A kilo-British thermal unit (1000 Btu). Btu is a common unit of energy measurement.

Q: What is a kWh?
A: A kilo-Watt hour is an unit of energy equal to one kilowatt (1 kW) of power expended for one hour of time.

Q: What is a Dth?
A: Dekatherm. An unit of energy equal to ten (10) therms or 1 million Btu.

Q: What is cost-avoidance as it relates to energy?
A: Due to higher costs per-unit than the baseline year, energy savings are sometimes seen as a 'cost-avoided' instead of actual dollars saved.
