GOVERNOR’S ARTS AWARD

Oklahoma City, OK -- Legend’s Restaurant, Norman, will be honored by Governor Brad Henry at the 33rd Annual Governor’s Arts Awards. Legend’s will receive the Earl Sneed Memorial Business Award which recognizes businesses and corporations that exhibit outstanding support of the arts in Oklahoma. Accepting the award will be the owners of Legend’s Restaurant, Joe and Rebecca Sparks.

Sponsored by the Oklahoma Arts Council, 15 individuals and three organizations will be honored for their contributions to the arts in their communities or throughout the state. The ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 23rd in the 4th Floor Rotunda of the State Capitol and is open to the public. Presiding at the ceremony will be Council Chair Jim Tolbert and Oklahoma Arts Council Executive Director Suzanne Tate. A reception on the first floor of the Capitol will follow the 4 p.m. ceremony.

One of Legend’s goals is to be instrumental in the healthy, positive growth of their community. During their successful 40 year history, Legend’s Restaurant has provided significant help and assistance to Norman arts and humanities organizations and employed more than 2400 Oklahomans. In addition to donating countless catered dinners, Legend’s is a constant contributor to fundraisers for cultural events.

Legend’s has been a friend and supporter to community arts organizations and their events including the Norman Arts Council, Norman Chamber of Commerce, Firehouse Art Center, Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Friends of the Norman Library, Jacobson House Foundation, Jazz in June, Norman Music Festival, Sam Noble Museum of Natural History, Sooner Theater, Taste of Norman, Tree Photo Contest and the University of Oklahoma Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts.

Beginning as a pizza delivery service on Norman’s South Navy Base in 1967, Legend’s Restaurant now holds a Three Star Rating in the Mobil Travel Guide and Three Diamonds in the AAA Travel Guide. Their homemade desserts have been recognized by Bon Appétit Magazine and Southern Living. They are a recipient of the Oklahoma Beef Commission’s “Silver Knife Award.”
