Horizons Discoverd:
Landscape and Still Life Drawings
June 13 thru August 12, 2005
Emotions
of limitless time and infinite space encompass the whole sense of being
as one gazes upon a distant horizon. The possibilities of what awaits
beyond the horizons of the world evoke overwhelming feelings of calm
and curiosity. A proud Oklahoman since 1991, Leslie Lienau’s
soft pastel drawings of landscapes and still lifes invite the audience
on a journey to the edge of what can be seen as she encourages her
audience to imagine beauty beyond the tangible. Horizons
Discovered: Landscape and Still Life Drawings brings the audience into a field
of lavender where the luscious aroma saturates the senses, sweeping
prairie grass tickles bare feet and blue skies give breath to the soul.
Lienau’s journey as an artist began as a child. As part of her
formal art training in classical realism, she studied drawing and painting
with teachers Ted Seth Jacobs at Ecole Albert Defois in central France,
Jacob Collins in New York and with Tony Ryder in Santa Fe. Lienau has
participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout the United States
and has received several awards and grants. Lienau’s artistic
talent has led to various portrait commissions, and she has, on several
occasions, donated her work to charitable organizations that benefit
her fellow Oklahomans.
Lienau finds inspiration in the openness of the Oklahoma landscapes.
Her impressionistic style converges with realism to reproduce images
onto paper that she has seen in person or images that are conceived
in her imagination. Join Lienau on this expedition through soft grass,
under warm skies to the edge of the earth, where you are left to imagine
the rest.
Lienau currently explores a more personal and reflective interpretation
in her landscapes and still lifes. “I want to give the viewer
an opportunity to see that which is often overlooked, to evoke emotion
and to realize beauty lies in the moment, to look intently at the thing
and enjoy the place and to experience time, causing us to see something
that we have never seen before,” said Lienau.
Lienau is represented by several Oklahoma City galleries including JRB Art at The Elms, Dodson Galleries, Colonial Art Gallery, and Shadid Fine Art, Edmond.
