Registration, lodging, conference schedule and scholarship information for the 2008 Statewide Arts Conference to be held in Enid, Oklahoma on November 12-14 is available on the Statewide Conference Blog.

Oklahoma Arts Council Executive Director Suzanne Tate said the theme of the conference is “Telling Our Own Story” and will focus on success stories fueled by personal experiences right here in Oklahoma. “The conference is an opportunity for participants to share their strategies for advancing the arts in our state,” said Tate. 2008 Governor's Arts Awards
to honor those who have contributed to the arts

Governor Brad Henry will honor 15 individuals and three organizations for their contributions to the arts in their communities or throughout the state at the 33rd Annual Governor’s Arts Awards. See a complete list of the honorees.

Sponsored by the Oklahoma Arts Council, the ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., October 23rd on the 4th Floor Rotunda of the State Capitol. A reception will follow on the 1st floor at 5:00 p.m.

Laughing Matters Too

Painting by Sue ClancyLaughter is very important to Norman artist Sue Clancy. Her art is often inspired by books she reads, people she meets, things she sees, the fact that she is deaf and the words she ‘miss-hears’, puns, idioms, and other funny words or phrases.

“I’m fascinated by the relationship between words and images. Particularly I’m amused by how we use verbal and visual animal metaphors to communicate. I’m interested artistically in how animal characters and humor enable us to discuss complex concepts in ways that are both memorable and accessible by a variety of people. I’m using animals and humor in my artwork to create conceptual jokes which talk about aspects of being human.”More...

Laughing Matters Too is currently on display at the State Capitol in the East Gallery located on the 1st floor and open daily from 8:00-5:30.

Photo by K.O. RinearsonFor Oklahoma City photographer Keith Rinearson creating the images for The Process of Discovery was both a calming and renewing experience even though they were captured in the hot and often dusty fields of Oklahoma.

“I enjoy helping Oklahomans see their state differently and having the opportunity to create and share these images gives me a great sense of fulfillment. I try to keep a keen eye on the quality of light. Finding the right mood as the light and shadows play with a scene is an important part of my technique,” said Rinearson.More...
